Bio Fuels

Just listened to this podcast by the BBC world service on bio fuels and now I'm very confused.

Bio Fuels are the making of diesel from plant based oils like soybeans or rapeseed and the goal is to not introduce new carbon from under the ground (oil) into the atmosphere as the carbon the plants use and release comes from the atmosphere.

However it appears for those of us which drive diesel cars and thought Bio Fuels were the way of the future may be mistaken because developing countries which grow the crops for the bio fuels clear much needed rain forest, use more pesticides, and displace native people to make way for the agriculture.

Guess we need some kind of ethical or organic body to monitor and certify the production of bio fuels.
